Clear aligners
Clear aligners are a series of trays made from a scan of your teeth, worn most of the day and changed on a schedule.
Aligners suit some bites and not others. The orthodontist looks at yours first, and says whether aligners or braces fit it better.

What happens, in order
- 01
Step 1: Exam and scan
A scan of your teeth takes the place of putty molds. The orthodontist reviews your bite on the screen with you.
- 02
Step 2: The plan
You see how the teeth are planned to move, hear a range for how many months, and get the written estimate.
- 03
Step 3: Your first trays
You try on the first trays, learn how to put them in and take them out, and get a case.
- 04
Step 4: Changing trays
You switch to the next tray on the schedule the orthodontist gives you, with check-ins along the way.
- 05
Step 5: Finishing and retainers
When the last tray is done, you are fitted for retainers.
Comfort, choices and care
Comfort
Teeth feel tight for a day or two when you switch to a new tray. Tell us if a tray rubs your cheek or gums.
Choices
Some plans add small tooth-colored bumps that help the trays grip. The orthodontist tells you if yours does.
If you wait
Waiting may change which treatment fits. The orthodontist tells you what is likely for your teeth.
Risks and after-care
Aligners only move teeth while they are in, so a tray left in a case slows things down. Brush before putting them back, and rinse them; sugary drinks with trays in can lead to cavities. Teeth need retainers afterward.
How it's billed
Aligners are one treatment fee, written down before you start. Read how fees work for insurance, receipts and payments.
Who provides it
Dr. Blia Xiong and Dr. Lilian Zepeda, orthodontists, provide your care.
Questions about clear aligners
How many hours a day do I wear them?
Most of the day. The orthodontist gives you the schedule for your case, and the trays come out for meals and brushing.
Can teens use aligners?
Some can. It depends on the bite and on whether a teen will keep the trays in. The orthodontist and a parent talk it through at the exam.
Can I wear them for sports?
Ask us at the visit. Trays usually come out for contact sports, and we tell you what to wear in their place.
What if I lose a tray?
Call us. Don't skip ahead on your own; we tell you whether to go back a tray or order a new one.
Is it right for my bite?
That is the first thing the orthodontist checks. If braces fit better, we say so and explain why.
